Hello and welcome to the totally new community site for our in-production real time strategy game NAVAL WAR: ARCTIC CIRCLE. Also, welcome to this development blog, where we aim to provide timely updates on what we are doing to produce an exciting game experience.
This game will give you control of the mighty naval and aerial forces of the world's great powers in a war for resources in the 21st century. Many of us have played every conceivable tank, plane and battleship from World War II, we have taken on orcs and goblins in a fantasy world, and we have controlled starships from a remote scifi future. From the present era it is not difficult to find land based tactical battles with tanks and platoons, but the by far greatest machines of war ever devised, modern naval units, are extremely rare specimens in strategy games. This is what we set out to change!
When you play Naval War, your theatre of opeations are the entire North Atlantic, from Newfoundland to Murmansk, from Svalbard to Britain. Your units range from massive aircraft carriers to tiny but deadly coastal patrol boats, from strategic bombers to modern stealth fighters. Your eyes are radars and sonars, and your cloaking advanced electronic countermeasures. Modern missile weapons can hit your surface units and land bases from more than a thousand kilometres away, so hiding your assets is crucial for success. Modern naval warfare is a gigantic game of hide and seek with a literally explosive ending.
To create this game experience, our engine must be as much a world simulator as a 3D environment. However, we believe you want to be able to enjoy playin Naval War without knowing, for example, how the thermocline affects your sonar. We strive for realism, but not at the expense of gameplay.
At Turbo Tape Games, gameplay is king.
Sincerely,
Jan Haugland
