Early 2010 Progress

Minimize

Jan 26, 2010. The first month of 2010 has seen rapid progress with the development of Naval War: Arctic Circle. Basic sensor systems, unit movement with complex waypoints, group formations, weapons, damage, aircraft launch and landing, different weapon loadouts for aircraft, just to mention a few things, now work. We can “play” the game as it stands, with a few quirks and limitations.  Read more.

Minimize

Dec 29, 2009. We have often emphasised realism when we explain what Naval War: Arctic Circle will be all about. But inevitably, there will be tradeoffs between good gameplay design and hard realism. Read more.

Weather effects in Naval War: Arctic Circle

Minimize

Dec 7, 2009. It is cold and dark here in Bergen this time of year, which is perfect for developing a game like Naval War: Arctic Circle. The weather in Naval War is not simply for showing off shaders and particle effects with rain, snow and rough seas, it has a clear impact on gameplay.   Read more.

Vessel Showcase

Minimize

You can now get a preview of four beautiful 3D ship models in an early version of the Naval War front end running in your web browser!

The vessel showcase shows a Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen class frigate and three Russian vessels: An "Akula" class nuclear attack submarine, the characteristic Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier and the Russian northern fleet flagship itself, the Kirov class battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy. The latter is often described as the most beautiful warship in the world; it is certainly one of the most impressive.

You may be asked to install the Unity Viewer plugin when you click Vessel Showcase the first time: This only takes a few seconds.

Updated May 12, 2009: We have updated the showcase with new units and much improved textures: The much desired Skjold class patrol boat running circles around everything else, and a Tupolev Tu-95 "Bear" long range turboprop bomber plane flying around. The particle effects are still very primitive, and the day-night cycle has a funny side effect. On the other hand, the birds are way cool!
